Hamm has officially announced the launch of new battery-electric driven tandem rollers that are set to become available across the North American market. Bringing forth a total of eight different electric rollers, the development in question offer the same compaction power as their combustion engine counterparts, except they produce zero local emissions. Talk about the whole value proposition on a slightly deeper level, we begin from the presence of a 48V li-ion battery which boasts a capacity worth around 23.4 kWh. Owing to this capacity, the new tandem rollers are able to conceive the required energy for driving, steering, and achieving dynamic compaction. More on the same would reveal how one can charge their roller 0% to 100% in no more than four hours, with technology well-equipped to sustain your energy needs for an entire average working day. Next up, we must get into the rollers’ oscillation unit which is driven by electric means via compact synchronous motors. Markedly enough, the machine also feeds a large portion of the braking energy back into the system through regeneration. Another detail we must mention here is how all e-components that are present within the roller require no maintenance whatsoever, but at the same time, they do promise to deliver at your disposal a higher level of torque.
Moving on, the tandem rollers further feature a HAMMTRONIC control system, which basically has its utility rooted in monitoring and controlling the machine’s wider components. Complimenting that through electronic driving levers, the technology also allows you to realize speed ramping for accelerating and braking maneuvers. There is also an automatic electric motor stop as standard, something which can deactivate all functions when the machine is idling so to reserve battery. On top of that, whenever ECO mode is selected, there is also a mechanism in play to limit the working speed. In case that sound like enough, to further strengthen its pursuit of saving energy at every possible touchpoint, the new roller does not switch on until the electric driving lever is actuated, and even once that happens, the machine’s default setting is to steer with sensitive responsiveness and an adaptive energy supply.
Hold on, we still have a few bits left to unpack, considering we still haven’t acknowledged that literally four of the e-models feature oscillation drums, two of which are combination rollers. Packing together quiet oscillation with quiet e-drive, the roller ensures that no emissions are produced during the operation. It also remains mindful regarding the sound disturbances by causing very few vibrations in the surrounding area. Such a consideration, on their part, makes these rollers ideal for compacting in noise-sensitive and vibration-sensitive areas, including near hospitals or historical buildings. Rounding up highlights would the fact that, through extensive electrification, the technology is able to reduce oil volume by more than 70%.
