JLG has officially announced the launch of its reimagined SkyTrak 8042 telehandler, which is now enhanced enough to maintain performance and reliability for longer durations. According to certain reports, the update in question equips the telehandler with a lightweight design, hydrostatic transmission, upgraded control system, electric-over-hydraulic joystick, as well as data at-a-glance. To expand upon that a little bit, we begin from the machine’s design. Having already referred to its lightweight nature, we must also mention how it arrives on the scene bearing an optimized boom and frame structure for transportation. Furthermore, from here onwards, users can fit two JLG 8042 telehandlers on a single flatbed trailer. Complimenting the same would be a larger LCD display and single-page load charts that deliver the data operators need, while simultaneously enabling them to stay focused on the job at hand. More on the design bit will reveal how the revamped SkyTrak 8042 telehandler offers a maximum lift height of 42 ft., 4 in., a maximum reach of 29 ft., 6 in., and a 21,200-lb worth of operating weight. Markedly enough, the machine’s enclosed tab is also available alongside optional air conditioning to ensure smooth operation even at those hot or humid jobsites.
With the design bit duly covered, we can turn our attention towards the functionality aspect. Here, you’ll notice that the telehandler in focus now features hydrostatic transmission, which provides greater control to operators. On top of that, it also allows them to conduct inching, the ability to run the boom at high speeds without shifting into neutral, for delivery of materials at height. Joining the same is a multifunctional, electric-over-hydraulic joystick which packs together several hydraulic functions and attachment tilt capabilities. Making the machine’s functionality even more attractive would be a significantly improved boom speed, as well as various auxiliary hydraulic connections that are available on the side of boom head for attachment changes. At launch, customers can access more than a dozen different attachments, including carriages, forks, buckets, hooks, and trusses.
“JLG redeveloped this model from the ground up with enhanced technology and functionality to meet the needs of today’s job sites and zero sacrifices,” said John Boehme, senior product manager of telehandlers at JLG. “We listened closely to our customers’ most requested features and capabilities to improve the efficiency and serviceability of the 8042, without any compromises. This model is designed to increase productivity and boost overall job performance in pick-and-place applications, such as handling, loading and unloading bulk materials on demanding residential, commercial, urban and suburban job sites across America.”
Next up, we must dig into the telehandler’s underlying technology. This technology, in essence, covers the presence of a new control system on the upgraded 8042. The said system will provide you with options like load stability indication (LSI), which by the way, can sense forward load capacity and display color-coded visuals to help operators. Next to that, there is seatbelt engagement and operator presence (SEOP) technology to combine a high visibility orange seatbelt and visual and audible alarms, as well as limiting machine functions, all for the purpose of supporting an optimally-safe machine operation. Among other things, the telehandler has a multi-reverse camera system to display left, right, and rear views from behind the machine during day or night operation, relaying the whole footage to on a single, tri-view monitor. To go with the camera, the telehandler even offers you a reverse sensing system. This system basically enables customers to access audible in-cab alarm to activate alerts regarding any rear obstructions when driving in reverse. Rounding up highlights is the availability of remote diagnostics and telematics connectivity, delivered through JLG’s ClearSky Smart Fleet system to support data collection, troubleshooting, and uptime.
